About Ginella Massa
Ginella Massa is a Canadian Screen Award winning broadcast journalist and media personality. She is best known for making history as the first woman to anchor a national newscast in North America while wearing a hijab. She is an entrepreneur, media expert, public speaker, and influential social media personality.
Ginella first appeared on Canadian television in 2015 when she was hired as a Video Journalist for CTV News in Kitchener, Ontario. She is believed to be the first hijab-wearing television news reporter in North America. Ginella made international headlines again after anchoring the evening newscast the following year while working for CityNews in Toronto, Ontario.
In 2020, Ginella made history once more when she was named the host of “Canada Tonight with Ginella Massa”, airing in primetime on CBC News Network, the country’s national public broadcaster.

With over 12 years of experience in news, behind-the-scenes and on-air, Ginella has worked for both local and national news outlets, in television and radio. Her on-air credits include CBC, CTV News, CityNews, Newstalk 1010, Rogers TV, and her writing has been published in the Globe and Mail, National Post, Chatelaine Magazine, and Refinery29 Canada.
Raised in Toronto, Ginella graduated with an Honours BA in Communication Studies from York University, and has a diploma in Broadcast Journalism from Seneca College. She is currently a journalism instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University, as well as a media consultant, and highly sought after public speaker.
